NZSFC Nationals supported by Pelagic Day 7 Recap

Striped Marlin Milestone

Another milestone was reached on Day 7 of the NZSFC Nationals, with a total of 200 Striped Marlin recorded for this year's tournament. Of these, an impressive 95% were tagged and released, with 190 fish safely returned to the ocean. Additionally, 10 Striped Marlin were weighed, adding to excitement at weigh stations across the country, and a celebration of the day's fishing.

Section Leaders and Notable Changes

In Section 3A, Gary Pearce made a significant impact by landing a 100.2kg Striped Marlin on 10kg line, taking the lead for Counties Sport Fishing Club in the NZ Champion Striped Marlin category. Well done, Gary, a great 1:10 fish!

Outstanding Performances in Other Sections

In Section 01 Team Snapper, Sandbaggers representing New Zealand Land Based Game Fishing Club took the lead with 994.0 points, closely followed by Sea Witch representing Wellington Surfcasting & Angling Club with 891.0 points.

Felix Wenzel also representing Wellington Surfcasting and Angling Club secured first place in Section 2 Champion Angler Snapper with a single fish gaining 385 points.

Interclub Champions

The Interclub Champions were also fiercely competitive with notable achievements including Tauranga Sport Fishing Club (Inc.) taking first place in Blue/Black Marlin, Warkworth Sportfishing Club leading in Broadbill Swordfish, Clevedon Game Fishing Club securing first in Mahimahi, and Counties Sport Fishing Club leading in Shark category.

Other winners include Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club in Short Bill Spear Fish, Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club in Skipjack, NZLBGC in Snapper, Counties in Striped Marlin, New Zealand Land Based Game Fishing Club in Trevally, Waihau Bay Sport Fishing Club in Tuna, and Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club in Yellow Tail.
In the Striped Marlin section, 11 clubs are tied on 3000 points. The final placings will be determined based on time separations between them.

Congratulations to angler Harris, tagging an estimated 115kg Striped Marlin, and Maz weighing in a Stripey going 128.1kg on 24kg yesterday, taking the top spot in the weighed Striped Marlin section 🔥
