No Friday Flash tomorrow as the office will be closed, so here’s a quick update:
Fishing
Not many boats out wide this week but there have been a few and they’re still catching marlin and yellowfin tuna so don’t put your gear away just yet. Closer in, snapper fishing is also going well with fish still being caught in the river and around the river mouth. Further out Korapuki is fishing well, as is the southern end of Great Mercury Island.
Clubrooms
Be aware that the clubrooms are OPEN as usual all through Easter. Our club licence enables us to remain open as we don’t have the same restrictions as some other liquor outlets. The bar will be open from 3pm each day and the kitchen is open from 5.30pm. We look forward to seeing you here.
Congratulations
To the Nicholson boys fishing on Vamos with mum and dad last Sunday, both breaking club records that have stood since 1996. Levi Nicholson – a 4.46kg skipjack tuna on 4kg line, new Junior club record and pending NZ Junior record. Hunter Nicholson – a 3.82kg skipjack tuna on 3kg line, new Junior club record. Well done guys and good on you mum and dad for giving them the opportunity.
Longshore Marine Lure Coaching Seminar
Mark this in your diary for Monday 17th April at 6pm. Stuart at Longshore Marine has organised Captain Espresso from Catch Fishing to give a coaching presentation to add to your fishing knowledge… how to massively increase your success with soft baits, slow pitch and mechanical jigs, whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned angler. More details on posters around the clubrooms or on our website.

Free entry – see you there.
Youth Nationals
Starts tomorrow (Good Friday) details and entry forms at the club or online. If you intend fishing in our Junior Tournament, the club will pay the entry cost for MBGFC junior members to the youth Nationals so get the entries in now and get these kids out on the water.
Junior Tournament
Fished over 2 days – April 15th and 16th (right in the middle of the school holidays). There are heaps of fantastic prizes and the kids are sure to have a great time. No briefing but prizegiving is in the clubrooms on Sunday 16th at April at 6pm. The first 20 boats entered will get a starter bag full of goodies,
Registration will be from 11am on Friday 14th April at the clubrooms.
Super Rugby
As mentioned, we will be open each night over Easter. On our big screen, we’ll be showing the rugby – on Good Friday we have the Crusaders against Moana Pasifika at 7.05pm followed by Reds and Brumbies at 9.35pm (whether we play these 9.35pm games will depend on how many people are here). On Saturday night we have the Highlanders playing the Hurricanes at 7.05pm, followed by the Blues and Rebels.
NRL
For anyone getting excited about how well the NZ Warriors have started the season, that game will be on Sunday at 8.15pm. If we have enough people here, we’ll be showing that game too.
Tonight
Our club draw is back to $500 since it was won by Carolyn Jackson last week. We’ve got plenty of meat for our raffles (we did 53 meat raffles last week) and there’s bound to be 3 or 4 ‘jug’ draws of $250 cash, along with ‘chuck a chook’.
Hopefully we’ll see you some time over the next few days – have a happy Easter.
