FRIDAY FLASH 13th January 2023
Fishing Report
We managed to get one day of fishing in last week and quite a few people took the opportunity. There were a few people caught snapper and kingfish out around the Mercs and south of Ohinau. Out wide there were about 10 yellowfin tuna caught – mostly around the Hook in H&M Pascoe Boatbuilders, but also in Kubota NZ, Churchy’s Charters NZ and New World Whitianga. The water out there was noticeably greener than it had been last time the weather allowed us out, but if definitely improved during the day. Fingers crossed for the next little weather window and hopefully there’ll be a few marlin lurking around.
Ladies Tournament
‘Girls in the Bay’ is scheduled for January 28th – Anniversary weekend. Please note that entries close a few days earlier on Monday January 23rd, you can’t enter the tournament after this date. The organisers have accumulated a huge array of prizes and there will be a DJ on the night so it will be a great event.
Entry forms are available on our website, at the bar or in the office.
Girls in the Bay – Summer Holiday Raffle
All the tickets for this raffle were sold by last night so we drew the winner #87 Olivia McGregor. Olivia was in the club last night and very pleased to take her prize home. A Loose Unit Splash Zone 9XL Inflatable Aqua Bouncer and Slide Package valued at $500 and sponsored by Hunting and Fishing in Thames. Congratulations Olivia and thanks to the people at Hunting and Fishing Thames.
Fishing
Just a few comparisons with last year at this early stage. Remember that apart from last Sunday, we haven’t been able to get out on the water since 30th December because of the weather.
There have been 13 Stripeys caught up to Dec 30th. At that stage last year there had been 3. So far this year we’ve weighed 30 yellowfin tuna, at the same stage last year there had been 6 and the average weight is also up about 16% to 38.3kg.
There seems to be plenty of fish out there, all we need is the opportunity to get out there to get them. You may recall last year was an excellent one as far as our catch list went and in the early stages this year we’re on track to exceed that.
