Fishing
The cooler weather has certainly slowed down the number of boats out on the water, but the people that have headed out, have by and large done very well on the fishing front. Once again, all the popular spots outside Centre, around the Twins and out around the Mercury Islands, have been producing big fat snapper. There are also kahawai and kingfish being caught, if the weathers okay it’s definitely worth going out for a look. Further out a few more swords have been caught with Mile Zero managing to get a couple to the boat and Nick on Stack Attack catching a nice one solo. There were reports last week of a couple of Southern bluefin tuna caught off Whangamata but I haven’t heard from anyone trying to catch one up around our neck of the woods. Must be worth a look soon!
Winter Tuna Fishing Tournament
Entries are now open for this 2 month tournament which starts on July 1st. Entry forms and rules can be found on our website wwww.gamebase.co.nz or hard copies are available from the club. $300 per boat and $20,000 in prizes, much of which will be cash.
Subscriptions
With the new fishing season just a week away now, please remember you must have paid your subs before you go fishing in order for the club to be able to recognize it for pins, trophies, records etc.
Friday Night Nibbles
Every Friday night, the club provides free nibbles at around 4.30 pm. This normally includes fish bites and chips with cut sausages and other tasty bites from time to time. Pop in for a drink at the end of the week and enjoy our hospitality and of course, feel free to stay for tea if you don’t want to cook.
AGM
Due to a clash of dates with (among other things) the NZSFC AGM at the end of September, this year’s AGM and prizegiving will be held on September 10th. We’ll keep you updated but please pencil this date in your diary.
No Friday Flash tomorrow – Have a happy Matariki weekend.
