Fishing:
Most feedback is confirming that it has become a little more difficult to catch snapper over the last couple of weeks, although there are still some good fish being landed. People seem to be doing well on long lines and there have been quite a few people trying soft baits in preparation for the Cathedral Cove Cruises Softbait, Slow Jig & Slider Tournament this weekend. Mostly snapper and gurnard on the menu this week and the best area seems to be in The Puddle nearer to the GMI side. Further out there were a few people trying for deep water bottom fish with a little success but there was plenty of action on the surface just north of the ammo dump with one boat landing a dozen or so albacore and getting a double strike of big eye tuna (one landed). Plenty of birds around there at the time and the place looked very ‘fishy’.
Condolences:
Unfortunately, long term club member Ron Creed passed away a week or so ago. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Thanks:
To Steve Fisher for making and fitting a new winch cover for our winch on the crane on the wharf. Thanks Steve, we appreciate your support.
Cathedral Cove Cruises Soft bait, Slow Jig and Sliders Competition:
Entries are starting to come in for this competition which is this coming weekend. The weather looks good and there will be plenty of cash prizes with all entry money being returned as prizes – as well as some cash and product donated by sponsors. You must enter and pay before you go fishing, so effectively you must enter before 4pm Friday by email or before the bar shuts on Friday night if you are bringing your entry in. Thanks to the Sponsors: Cathedral Cove Cruises, Z-man, Gulp, Shimano, Black Magic and Longshore marine.
Ladies Blue:
This 5 month billfish and big tuna ladies tournament kicks off on Dec 1st and we already know there are big fish in our waters. Entry forms and rules are available from our website or the office and you can enter at any stage during the year but you need to enter before you head out for your fish to be included.
Vaccination Pass:
Please note that as previously advised, due to government regulations, you will need to show us your vaccination certificate when you come into the clubrooms or enter a tournament from Friday 3rd December.
Hawaiian Shirt Night:
Next Thursday we will be having our Hawaiian Shirt night. We’ll have a few cocktails available and a couple of themed additions to the kitchen menu. We look forward to seeing you here in your colourful shirts, lei’s and decorative flowers.
Congratulations:
To Alan and the crew on Elysium for catching a 76.6kg big eye tuna on 15kg line last Saturday. The fish is a pending pin fish and line class club record. It is also a 5:1 catch, and its good to see these larger fish out there in time for the start of the Ladies Blue Tournament.
Last night we welcomed Pete Saunders (Sauce) from the New Plymouth Club, their delegate on the NZSFC for 37 years to our Club.
