Fishing:
We’ve had a few beautiful days this week and the boat ramps have been well used. In close, the results have been a little mixed although a range of species have been caught. As to be expected, the snapper bite is much better with a bit of tide running and there are some really good size fish around. Popular spots have been around korapuki, in the puddle and outside centre. Tarakihi, gurnard and kingfish have also been on the menu and with mackies back in the bay fishing for kingies with a livey is almost guaranteed. Further out, we’ve had a couple of boats chasing deep sea bottom fish and coming home with a good mix of bass, hapuku and bluenose. The water out there is starting to warm up and with a good long term weather forecast a few people might be tempted to head wide in search of a tuna.
Courtesy Van:
As long as we can get volunteers we’ll be back into running the courtesy each week. Please give it some serious consideration, especially if you’ve had a couple of drinks. We do rely on volunteers to pick members up to bring them to the club, once you’re here we can use staff if necessary to get people home so there’s not really any excuse for drinking and driving.
Radio Operator:
It’s that time of the year again with tournaments and the big fish game season just around the corner. We’re close to getting our channel 65 aerial back up and running in its new and much improved position. We’ll need some help with running gamebase which entails using the VHF. If you’re available to help out at all, please let us know in the office. First we’ll be looking to cover tournaments and anything else will be a bonus.
