FISHING

Most feedback suggests that fishing is still a bit patchy and the high winds over the last week or so certainly haven’t helped either. There were no shortages of fish caught during the tournament last week so they’re out there just a bit more patience is required. It seems a berley trail is essential but unfortunately there are quite a few sharks around and they are prone to turning up & ruining your day. Snapper are being caught around most of the coastline of Great Mercury Island, especially the north & south. Scallops are in excellent condition, it’s been a great season – long may it continue.

EXTREME BOATS

The organisers were very pleased with how this tournament ran and were complimentary about the club’s role in its success. The club does well financially out of this tournament & we look forward to hosting their next one in about 18 months.

SPONSORS GRID

We’re in the process of getting this organized now. If you’re interested in a spot on the grid let Alan know asap – first in first served after the incumbents have had an opportunity to re-commit. The grid is going to be larger this year but we’re not looking for extra sponsors, we will just make some of the other grids a bit larger.

COASTGUARD COURSES

Coastguard advises that there are still limited spaces available for the VHF radio course to be held on Sunday 18 November at Whitianga Coastguard. Pre enrolment by next Wednesday is essential. Please phone
0800 40 80 90 or contact tutor, Dick Wilson on 07 897 1254.
Holding a VHF Operator’s Certificate is a requirement for all users of VHF radio. Gain a NZQA qualification and get practical advice by attending this one day course.

MOVEMBER

As you can see, a number of members are in full swing growing a mow in support of the Movember Foundation who are tackling the issue of men’s health. There is a donation box on the bar for anyone wanting to contribute.

KITCHEN

Members are reminded that if you bring in clean, filleted fish, our kitchen staff will cook it for you and provide salad and chips for $5 per person. Please note that this does not apply for takeaways.

CAN YOU HELP

A member of the club requires a  marina berth bigger than 10metres  or a water ways jetty to hold his 33ft launch from Dec 23rd to Mid Feb.
If you can help please phone Ted on 0272 750 025.

FISHERIES NZ
