FISHING

With a bit of breeze around over the last week or so, there hasn’t been a lot of fishing effort although that will change today with Placemakers holding their annual fishing tournament.  I haven’t heard from anyone who’s been out wide but closer in there is still plenty of action. Some quite large bait schools and the fish doing their best to put on some condition leading into winter is a good recipe for success.  Use large baits and sit on the edge of foul ground or reef structure and you can’t go wrong.  (Don’t forget your burley trail too). For those that can’t go far, the river has been producing good snapper for a few months now and that hasn’t slowed yet.  There have also been big trevally and the odd kingfish caught around the river mouth in the last couple of weeks.  If conditions allow, its’ a good time of the year for fishing and worth putting an extra layer of clothing on to ward off the dropping temperature.

THANKS

To Graeme Tucker and the team at Whitecliffe Developments for building the stairs at the western end of our deck to improve access and to provide an alternative exit in case of emergency.

BEREAVEMENT

Don Ross who has been a life member of the Club since 1975 passed away on the 3rd April aged 96.  Our condolences to his family.

MEMORABILLIA

Thanks also to Warren Harris (Wazza), Pete Murray and Mark Franklin for putting up the blue fin tuna which has been patiently waiting in the back shed.

JUNIOR TOURNAMENT

Just a few weeks to go now for this tournament. Once again the sponsors have come to the party and it should be a great couple of days for our young anglers.

FISHING A pretty good week for fish with a couple of big fish weighed last weekend. On Saturday we had a stripey at 112.8kg and on Sunday Tony Croft, fishing on Mad Max, landed a 147kg broadbill. With the water still reported to be quite warm out there and plenty of...

FISHING We’re still getting some good comments about the snapper fishing which has really taken off in recent weeks. Many areas are coughing up fish but on the sand it really pays to have a good sounder. The reefs are firing again and fish are being caught in any...
