FISHING

We’re still getting some good comments about the snapper fishing which has really taken off in recent weeks. Many areas are coughing up fish but on the sand it really pays to have a good sounder. The reefs are firing again and fish are being caught in any depth – I’ve had feedback about some big ones being hauled in from very deep water roughly between Red Merc and Whale Rock yet others in 18 – 20 metres. As usual, a good burley trail will increase the odds but unfortunately there are plenty of sharks out there too. Further out there have been some excellent marlin caught in the last week or so, most over 140kg mark and one over 200kg. There are still a few blues around and the stripeys are lot bigger than the ones being caught earlier in the season. A lot of the action is in close – inside 100m and live baiting is also producing the goods. However, be sure to have more than one live bait because the tax man is sure to be there too.

WELL DONE

There are still a few big fish being tagged or weighed. Congratulations to Melissa Ford, fishing on Mabel, for catching a 179kg striped marlin which is a pending Ladies Club record on 37kg and all tackle (which has stood since 1956)
