FISHING

Things have certainly stepped up in the last few weeks with in-shore species really going on the bite.  We’ve had some pretty good snapper and kingfish caught but the numbers being hooked is impressive too. There are a lot of fish being caught around the islands – all the Mercury Islands and right into Ohinau, Flat Island, the Black Rocks and others.  They are also taking both softbaits and cut baits which will obviously suit everyone.  Out wide we still have plenty of marlin in our area with 10 being caught in the last week or so and plenty being dropped.  Fish are being caught far and wide with others in very shallow water so it’s a bit of a lottery where to head, no doubt areas holding bait are the best bet.

BILLFISH  CLASSIC

This tournament has been and gone with about 10 marlin caught over the 3 days, only 4 of which counted for the tournament.  Congratulations to the equal first place getters onboard MoshPit, Aceiano, Fysher III and Kawailani.  As all marlin were tagged the Calcutta was not won and all Calcutta money was refunded.  Thanks Wotzie for running the briefing, Calcutta and prizegiving.

TONIGHT

The Informer is holding an invite-only function in our clubrooms from about 5.15pm tomorrow night for about 160 people. The club will still be open to members but be aware that it will be busy and there are formalities during which noise will need to be kept to a minimum.

SATURDAY NIGHT

On Saturday night we are hosting the waterway’s Marlin Mayhem tournament prize giving.  Once again the club will be open and it will be a much smaller group than Friday night.

FISHING We’re still getting some good comments about the snapper fishing which has really taken off in recent weeks. Many areas are coughing up fish but on the sand it really pays to have a good sounder. The reefs are firing again and fish are being caught in any...
