FISHING

I haven’t heard a lot from people this week so far. What news I have heard has been pretty positive with plenty of snapper being caught. Out around the Mercury Islands has been popular but I don’t know how they’ve got on closer in around the bay this week. There have been some excellent reports of bigger fish down at Waihau Bay in the last couple of days. One report I heard was that on Wednesday there were 65 boats out and they caught 47 Southern bluefin tuna and hooked up to 3 marlin, one landed. At some stage these fish will be heading closer to our area and hopefully they’ll be close enough for us to get a crack at them. We’ve already weighed one southern bluefin this season that Mad Max Sportfishing caught at Waihau Bay & weighed here. There’s a pretty good forecast for tomorrow, otherwise you might need to wait until the end of next week to get conditions conducive to heading wide for a shot at a tuna

TOURNAMENT CALENDAR

The dates for next year’s tournaments have been established and ratified by the committee. There is a copy of the tournament calendar on our notice board and our website will be updated in the next couple of days.

VOLUNTEERS

We are still seeking volunteers to take over as convenor of the trailer boat tournament, the kids fishing competition convenor and weighmasters. Please approach a committee member or someone in the office if you are able to give the time to help with any of these roles.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

All subscriptions notices have been posted and if you haven’t already received it, you can expect it in the next few days. Remember that if you go fishing, for any fish you catch to be recognized by the club & eligible for pins, trophies, records etc, you need to have paid your subs before you go fishing.
