FISHING

Inshore species seem to be coming back on the bite and although most snapper seem to be under the 10lb mark, there was a 20 pounder weighed during the Ladies Tournament last Saturday. There are still a lot of snapper on the sand and mud but there are more & more reports of fish being successfully landed off the reefs. There doesn’t seem to be any shortage of kingfish and trevally & gurnard are also filling the catch bag. Further out the season is ticking over although it would be better if a few of the bigger fish stuck on the line long enough to get to the boat. There were several marlin caught in the Ladies Comp and a yellow fin tuna estimated to be

20 – 30 kg landed on Monday. On Wednesday there were 12 marlin weighed or tagged in the Bay of Islands so fingers crossed that water is headed in our direction now.

LADIES  TOURNAMENT

As expected we had a very busy weekend last week with the Ladies Tournament underway. With 339 anglers, skippers, deckies and partners there were quite a number of people on site and our thanks go to the staff and volunteers who put out some pretty big numbers again. Thanks again to all the sponsors of the tournament and congratulations to all the prize winners including Cassandra Raj who won the Holden Spark.

TRISTRAM MARINE OPEN

This is our next major tournament and rules and entry forms are on the bar and our website – www.gamebase.co.nz . Eight days of fishing beginning on the 16th Feb – hopefully just in time for a great run of large fish from the north. I see that 2 marlin were weighed & 10 tagged yesterday in the Bay of Islands.

FISHING Once again I haven’t had a lot of feedback this week. It’s probably due in part to the sea conditions which for much of the week have been unfishable. Fortunately the forecast for the next week or so is much  better and with the Tristram Marine Open and the ...

FISHING Once again, not a lot of feedback this week although a number of people took to the water on our National Holiday mid week.  It seems there were plenty of snapper caught in the Puddle and out behind Centre Island but other than that I didn’t hear much.  Out...

FISHING There have been plenty of boats out on the water most days notwithstanding the wind speed, however I haven’t received much feed back regarding the success rate.  I’ve heard there are plenty of pannies in the river and we had an excellent day out wide last...
