FISHING

Once again I haven’t had a lot of feedback this week. It’s probably due in part to the sea conditions which for much of the week have been unfishable. Fortunately the forecast for the next week or so is much  better and with the Tristram Marine Open and the  Simrad/ITM Nationals about to start, the timing couldn’t be better. I did hear from a few people fishing in close over the last few days and they have been getting mixed results. One of the best spots for picking up a feed appears to be in the river and around the river mouth. You’re probably not going to catch your twenty pounder but for a couple of hours up to high or low tide you should be able to get a few pannies and you may even snag a good size trevally. There are still a lot of snapper in the Puddle too but it’s a big area and a good sounder will save you a lot of time.

TRISTRAM MARINE OPEN
This tournament starts tomorrow and continues for 8 days to next Saturday. Organisation is well advanced and once again there is a large array of prizes due to a large injection of cash from our main sponsor – Tristram Marine, and awesome support from nearly 60 other sponsors. The long range weather forecast for this period is a lot better than originally forecast and it would appear there will be plenty of opportunities to get out on the water. Thanks to all the people at Tristram Marine and all the other sponsors who contribute to this being one of our best value for money tournaments.

SIMRAD/ITM NATIONALS

This competition is held over the same period as our Tristram Marine Open and the rules are purposely very similar in many respects. One of our pre-requisites of entering the Tristram Marine Open is that all entries must also be fishing the Nationals and once again, we hope to have good representation in the Simrad/ITM Nationals results. All teams will get a copy of the NZSFC Year Book and the rules for this tournament start on page 38. Make sure you nominate at least one person in your team to familiarize themselves with the rules so you don’t end up with any hiccups.

VHF PROTOCOL

Unfortunately I feel compelled to remind everyone to watch their language when using the VHF. There is a small minority of people becoming too loose with their tongue, especially when they get a bit excited. Apart from being unlawful, it’s not very nice for others to have to put up with bad language, more especially, when there are kids around. The Club does it’s best to ensure fishers have access to this form of communication and we ask that small number of people I am referring to, to respect the fact that there are many people listening.
