FISHING

Sorry people, no fishing report today. Weather hasn’t been that flash since I got back from leave and I’ve received no reports at all. A much better few days ahead of us should see a fair bit of effort and I’d be interested in receiving any feedback from anyone who goes fishing, either inshore or out wide.

BISTRO

Yesterday we hosted the Mercury Bay Health Support Group for their Christmas lunch. On Saturday we are holding the grid sponsors night and then we have another lunch function on Tuesday so the clubrooms are being well utilized.

LADIES BLUE

This tournament runs for a period of 5 months and started on the 1st December so is officially underway. You can enter at any time during this period and it is a simple cash in – cash out tournament although our normal fishing rules apply. Entry forms and rules are on the bar, if you’re heading wide and have a lady angler on board, you may as well be in to win.

FISHING

Last year the first yellowfin tuna of the season was caught on December 16th which is only 9 days away so you should be giving some thought as to when you are going to head out for a look.

MOVEMBER

Thanks to the generous contributions from our members and the good spirit of the guys that took part, the club was able to donate $585.30 to the Movember Foundation which is focused on improving men’s health. Special mention goes to those club members who are also members of the local car club who held their own fundraising session and raised an extra couple of hundred dollars and managed to get Bryce Hooton’s moustache shaved for the first time in 30 years. That raised $100.00.

STAFF

I don’t normally single staff out because they all do a great job collectively, however, I would like to recognize a big effort from Pam yesterday to ensure patrons enjoyed their visit and for helping the club out when needed. After making pavs and trifle at home for the function we had yesterday, she was early to the supermarket then here to get the main meal started. She set all the tables and oversaw the dishing up of the meal, tended the bar and helped with the cleanup. Then she did her actual job in the office. She came down to the club later on in her Hawaiian costume and when one of the kitchen staff went home sick right in the thick of it all, she stepped in and gave a hand there too. Thanks Pam, we appreciate your efforts. (Thanks Suzy too for helping in the kitchen)

FISHING Not a lot of feedback from the last week as the breeze has kept most people off the water. It’s been harder to entice snapper to take any kind of bait. Smaller baits seem to work better than large ones and movement is something else worth trying. Slowly...
