FISHING

Things are really patchy at the moment with reports coming back from the same people who are catching fish on some trips but not others. Deeper water seems to be the place to be although there have been some exceptions. The wind has made things pretty tough for much of this week, but there are still enough fish being caught to make it worth the effort. There haven’t really been any popular spots this week – most people are just trying to stay out of the wind.

DREDGING

We hosted Ports of Auckland Ltd on Tuesday when they set up a stand and had senior staff here to explain what they are intending to do and asking for information about how we use the space that will be affected. I know they found out a fair bit that they didn’t already know which they will take into account with their application to the Environment Protection Agency.

EXTREME BOATS TOURNAMENT

A big welcome to the organisers and competitors in this tournament for the next couple od days. This big event will affect our parking until Saturday and keep the staff pretty busy at the same time. We wish them all the best out on the water and look forward to a successful tournament for everybody concerned.

COASTGUARD COURSES

Coastguard Boating Education has a Day Skipper Course scheduled at Whitianga Coastguard for Sat/ Sun 10 and 11 November. This is an ideal introductory course, or for those wishing to brush up on their boating knowledge. The deadline for enrolments is Tues 6 November.

THANKS

We are lucky to have a very involved committee and most of them do a lot of work that most members don’t see around the club. This week we’ve had a few busy helpers with the Extreme Boats Tournament and I would like to acknowledge help from Glen Clark, Scott and Debbie Farrell.

FISHING Most feedback suggests that fishing is still a bit patchy and the high winds over the last week or so certainly haven’t helped either. There were no shortages of fish caught during the tournament last week so they’re out there just a bit more patience is...

FISHING There’s some pretty good fishing out there for what is normally a fairly quiet time of the year. It’s fair to say that things aren’t quite as good as they were a couple of months ago but there are some good fish being caught and most trips out on the water...
