Friday 14.11.25
MBGFC Manager
Resignation
Dear Members,
As previously
advised, our Club Manager, John East, has resigned from his position.
Following
consultation with the Committee, it has been agreed that John will take
garden leave until his official last day on Friday, 5 December.
This arrangement
allows the Committee additional time to implement several operational and
administrative changes that are required to support the Club going forward.
We wish John the very
best of luck in his future endeavours.
In the interim,
John’s responsibilities will be jointly managed by the Committee and existing
staff until a suitable permanent replacement is appointed. All required
licences previously held by John have now been appropriately transferred to
Committee members, ensuring the Club continues to operate as normal. If
you have any questions, please contact the office at office@mbgfc.co.nz

Fishing Report
We are happy to be
bringing back a weekly fishing report. Please let us know of any interesting
fishing you have done so we can share it with our members. Please email info
to office@mbgfc.co.nz
Info for the weekly
report is gathered by club members and also provided by Stackattack Charters.
A big thank you to those who contribute.
Offshore
The water is warming
up it is now over 19 degrees out wide which will mean the gamefish are not
far away. Bass and Puka are being caught on the deeper reefs if you know
where to look.
Inshore
The water temp has
also improved along the coast. Kingi fishing in the shallows is going well,
using a live bait will get the best results.
Snapper fishing has
been great, both on and around the reefs. Using a good burly will help but
will also attract Sharks so be prepared. For the “no bait” fishers, the
snapper are around the reefs, but also out on the sand and are taking soft
baits, sliders and slow jigs. Keep an eye on your sounder for mid-water sign,
as this is the time of year that snapper sit high up in the water column,
often quite close to the surface. Be prepared to catch them on the drop. Note, the Longshore Marine No Bait
Tournament starts this Saturday so enter the Comp via the office and get into
it.
Pack-horse crayfish
are in good numbers around the deeper reef edges. Remember these are now
measured the same way as Red Crays (tail width) but at larger sizes. Male
84mm, Female 90mm. Dive Zone have the new measures in stock. Please also
check the legal bag limits.
Up the river, Mullet
are starting to turn up, as are a few Flounder so if netting is your thing
then give it a go.
URGENT
Don’t forget there
are now more “NO FISHING” areas in our region in the form of a marine reserve
extension or High Protection Areas (HPA). Of note is the boundary extension
to the Cathedral Cove reserve which now extends out past Centre Island and
includes the reef structure behind it. The HPAs that are to the North and
South of the Alderman Islands are also no fishing areas including a large
chunk of the “Aldie Pins”. Please make yourselves aware of these areas.
Information and GPS co-ordinates can be obtained off the noticeboard inside
the club.

Proposed amendments
to commercial fishing regulations – 2025
Submissions Close 28th
November
Fisheries New Zealand
(FNZ) is seeking feedback on a package of 19 proposed changes to commercial
fishing regulations. Proposal one seeks feedback on whether changes should
also apply to the recreational fishing regulations. The majority of the
changes have been proposed by representatives of the commercial fishing
industry as a means to remove redundant regulations and/or regulations that
are overly complex, duplicative, or impose unnecessary compliance costs.
Of particular
interest to our fishing community is the provision for dead marlin caught by
commercial fishers to be landed and sold in monitored fisheries.
For full details on
these proposed changes and how to make a submission click this link:
