Billfish Classic 2018

Billfish Classic 2018

by Mar 2, 2018Tournament Results

A poor weather forecast forced the postponement of the tournament and a reduction to two days instead of the three originally planned. The wind dropped right out over the weekend and most boats saw some action at some stage. Unfortunately the competition became known for dropping fish with about a dozen marlin escaping prematurely after being called in on the radio and quite a few others that had a bite but were never really hooked properly. Although a couple of marlin were tagged and released, in the end the winning fish was a shortbill spearfish weighing in at 18.8kg. The winners received $26,500 in prize money all up which works out at $1,410 per kg for their fish – not a bad return!
